December is here! In what has been a rollercoaster of a year, and an unprecedented one at that (we know, but we couldn’t not use *that* word), it’s hard to believe that 2021 is literally just around the corner.

While 2020 has been a challenging year, it’s not all been doom and gloom. We’ve had the incredible support of our amazing Zove Beauty community throughout, and we are grateful for each and every one of you.

Second, the Zove Beauty Crew has discovered and used some excellent beauty products this year and we want to share our intel with you! In the interests of spreading joy (‘tis the season after all) and sharing more about ourselves with you, we welcome you to our 2020 beauty round up.

So, pull up a chair and pour yourself your favourite drink and let’s talk about all things 2020 beauty!

Adeline Yeak, Founder and Director at Zove Beauty

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF (OUTSIDE OF BEING A BEAUTY JUNKIE)

Hi! I'm Adeline, the founder & director at Zove :) Fun fact: I don't drink coffee (cue gasps from all the Melbournians!) – hot chocolate for me!

My favourite colour is purple (it’s the best colour out there!), and I’m currently obsessed with Queen's Gambit on Netflix.

WHAT ARE THE TOP TWO BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU HAVE USED IN 2020?

  1.     The Dyson Airwrap

This is a bit of a boujee one! I was lucky enough to be gifted the Dyson Airwrap from my mum and aunt, it was a gift to welcome me into the entrepreneurial journey as I stepped into Zove full time. They wanted me to not stress about spending too much time doing up my hair for meetings so thought this was a practical idea. Well, it does exactly just that - soft bouncy waves in under 5 minutes every time! I first heard about how good it was from my cousin, but never thought twice about it because of the price. It legitimately has kept my hair healthier this year - my dry ends are much more manageable now, and my hair is actually growing at a much faster rate! Mind. Blown. Now that I've experienced its goodness, I would actually purchase this with my own money! If you're thinking about it... DO IT!

  1.     Dr Jart+'s Vital Hydra Solution Biome Essence

A somewhat odd fact for a beauty junkie like myself. I've never used an essence until this year. Dr Jart+'s Vital Hydra Solution Biome Essence changed my skin. It's helped with the redness around my nose a whole heap and has taken my overall skin hydration level up a notch! I have a very simple skincare routine and tend to only add products to the routine IF they really do work. This essence is an example of that. I first saw a friend using it and thought, let's give this essence a try, so I purchased it from Sephora at the start of lockdown (it's pricey - but a little goes a long way!). Definitely will be a staple in my routine again in 2021.

WHAT BEAUTY PRODUCT OR TREND ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING OUT IN 2021?'

Anything that can add a sense of relaxation into my routine in 2021.

This year has made me realise the importance of good mental hygiene, you can't pour from an empty cup, so be sure to fill that up :)

For me, that comes from taking time out for a bath, a massage (I love a good Thai massage) or an at home facial massage. Anything that can enhance those for me will be a win in 2021! I'm a creature of habit; once I find a good routine, I tend to stick with it instead of exploring different skincare trends. I think the "slow-down” message in the skincare community is starting to translate to more and more of us, and I really want to be able to encourage Zovers on this too; less "trends", but more "learning what my skin needs and feeding it what it desires".

Amanda Soon, Business Assistant

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF (OUTSIDE OF BEING A BEAUTY JUNKIE)

I’m Amanda! I’m the Business Assistant here at Zove Beauty and I help out with most things digital marketing & social media. Friends is my all-time favourite sitcom and I’ve been binging it since it came on Netflix. I also love to drink filter coffee without sugar because it’s not coffee if you add sugar!

WHAT ARE THE TOP TWO BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU HAVE USED IN 2020?

  1.     Bondi Boost Hair Growth Shampoo + Conditioner

This is AN ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER. I have really thin hair, and I initially bought this after hearing Gemma Watts talk about it in one of her IG stories and her hair was luscious there. She mentioned that she had used the shampoo and conditioner set from Bondi Boost which is meant to boost hair growth, but it’s actually been doing more than that for my hair and scalp. The new hair that’s growing out from my scalp is visibly thicker, healthier and glossier. I absolutely love this product and can’t imagine going back to anything else – I’ll definitely be using this for years to come.

  1.     A Konjac Sponge

When my fungal acne was at its peak (most severe) I wanted to make sure I was really getting a good cleanse for  my skin. I’m not usually one that goes after physical exfoliators. However, I’ve heard reviews about the Konjac sponge being a great natural and gentle addition to your cleansing routine and thought I’d try it out. I purchased my first one from Innisfree as I just came across it and thought I’d give it a shot. Needless to say, I have been really enjoying it since. I definitely feel like, when paired with my usual cleanser, it gives a nice lather without stripping my skin or hurting my skin barrier. My skin feels more supple and smooth after each cleanse.  I’ll definitely continue using this in 2021!

WHAT BEAUTY PRODUCT OR TREND ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING OUT IN 2021?

BIOSSANCE Squalane Oil. It’s an item I’m currently saving up for  - it might even be a birthday gift to myself for next year!

Shilpa Bhim, Beauty Writer

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF (OUTSIDE OF BEING A BEAUTY JUNKIE)

Hi, I’m Shilpa! I’m the resident beauty writer at Zove. I am a big fan of coffee and have at least two cups a day! I balance my coffee addiction out by also drinking a ton of water (‘cause as all us beauty junkies know; coffee is dehydrating so too much of it isn’t good for your skin!). Gilmore Girls is my all-time favourite show (I wonder where my coffee addition came from …)  - I’ve watched the series so many times and never get sick of it!

WHAT ARE THE TOP TWO BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU HAVE USED IN 2020?

  1.   NūFace Mini

I researched the NūFace devices for months before taking the plunge and buying one – and I’m so glad I got this product! It’s a microcurrent facial toning device which is meant to improve facial contour and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

I’ve been using mine all year and swear by it now – it genuinely lifts and tones my face with each use. Consistency is key with this product! I’m also hoping that the tool is helping keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay – remind me to report back on this in a year or so!
The NūFace products should be used with a conductor gel – I tried the NūFace branded gel – it’s nice, but pricey. So, I now use an aloe vera gel – gets the job done, is better value for money and feels like it’s better for my skin. The NūFace  Mini will definitely continue to be a staple in my skincare routine.

  1.     Hemp Seed Face Oil

Facial oils have been an integral part of my daily skincare routine for years. I’d heard a lot about the skin benefits of hemp seed oil earlier this year and thought I’d try it out. It’s a natural humectant, so it draws moisture into the skin. Can confirm that I am hooked! I swear this oil has magical properties – it nourishes my skin, without making it look oily at all, and my skin has this new found glow to it (despite the endless hours spent in front of a screen this year). I’ve been recommending hemp seed oil to everyone I know lately. It’s suitable for all skin types, non-comedogenic (so it doesn’t clog pores) and is packed with nutrients.

WHAT BEAUTY PRODUCT OR TREND ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING OUT IN 2021?

I’m loving the less is more approach to skincare and beauty and it’s something I’m keen to focus on in 2021. The days of the (jam-packed) shelfie are long gone as we shift towards being more mindful of what, and how much, we consume. I’m pretty picky with skincare and will finish a product before buying or trying another. But I’m certainly guilty of buying more face mists, face masks and lip balms than I need. So, going into the new year, it’s about using and finishing up what I have before I purchase more!

We shared our intel, Zovers. Now it’s your turn! We’d love to hear what your best 2020 beauty discoveries were. Let us know via Instagram or email us
Thank you for being part of our community this year. We look forward to sharing more skincare and beauty tips with you in 2021!
